Book Friends

It’s stressful times for everyone. Coronavirus hasn’t hit SoCal hard, yet. YET. But I didn’t really sleep last night because I can’t stop thinking about what may come. I know I’m not the only one in that boat, especially with many (in the U.S.) on shelter in place orders.

We’re still taking walks. And I feel very lucky and blessed that the girls’ school started distance learning yesterday. I can’t emphasize enough what a difference that made in the spirit of our house—yes, it changed in just one day because it created a sense of normalcy in our world that is changing so much day to day.

I read a great article by an American couple in quarantine in China. They’re seven weeks ahead of us in quarantine time and this article explains how they stayed sane.

We’ve been organizing the house. I wish I could say that I have tons of free time, but I don’t. I’m a doctor and I’m still going in to work though this week has been slow.

I can’t focus to write. Mini Me can’t either.

My plan for escape? Books, of course.

I’m finding solace in some old friends.

What I mean is that when I really can’t focus on what’s going on, I pull out some of my favorite re-reads.

Fangirl

Pride and Prejudice

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before x 3

Bridget Jones’ Diary

Where She Went

These are the books I currently have in my TBRR pile. To Be Re-Read.

(Yes, I’m on a first name basis with these old friends, hence why I didn’t include the authors. But you can click the link if you want more info.)

I have a pile of new TBR books, don’t get me wrong.

But sometimes our minds need a little famiiiarity and comfort. Sometimes our minds want to know what’s coming.

Or discover what we missed the first time around.

That’s my plan for today. Or for the next hour until I wake up the girls for distance learning. Then my plan is to focus on what they need. Join in on PE. Do some yoga. And try not to read the news before bedtime so I can sleep tonight!

What are some of your favorite re-reads?

I’m over due for a read-along and leaning toward Rainbow Rowell’s Fangirl since I’m about to re-start it and Mini Me has been reading it this week. My other thought is to do a read-along (virtual book club) to discuss the two books that spawned from Fangirl, Carry On and Wayward Son. Especially because I STILL haven’t read Wayward Son yet.
