Quarantine Read-Along Time + First Pages: To All the Boys

“I like to save things. Not important things like whales or people or the environment. Silly things. Porcelain bells, the kind you get at souvenir ships. Cookie cutters you’ll never use, because who needs a cookie in the shape of a foot? Ribbons for my hair. Love letters. Of all the things I save, I guess you could say my love letters are my most prize possession.”

Happy Birthday, Harry: Part One of our Harry Potter Read-Along

I'm FINALLY reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone!  Finally!  I admit that I had started and stopped it many times, not because of poor writing, but because it starts slowly for someone who has already seen the films. But the whole reason I picked this book for our summer read-along is because I wanted to get through the first book so I can get to all the rest.

And I'm glad I did. The world building is fantastic right from the get-go.

Hello Universe Read-along Part 1

We've heard the phrase WE NEED DIVERSE BOOKS over and over again.  And it's true.  No matter how many times you hear it, or if you're sick of hearing the same things in conferences.  When I was growing up, I NEVER saw myself in the books I read.  Ever.

I was so excited that Erin Entrada Kelly won the Newbery that I did this read-along a little differently: I distributed ten copies of Hello, Universe to my fellow bibliophiles and colleagues who love to read.

The End of Twilight

I STAND CORRECTED!! I can admit when I'm wrong.  In an earlier post, I note (complain) that Edward doesn't tell Bella that he loves her, but he DOES.  It just takes a while for him to say the actual words.  Also, page 363 holds a steamy--but not R-rated--kiss that I thought was written well.

And So The Lion Fell in Love with the Lamb....

Welcome back to our EPIC read-along of Twilight by Stephenie Meyer.  When we last left our two love birds, well, they were just starting to become love birds.  In this section, Edward declares his undying/immortal love for Bella.  Wait, that didn't happen.  HE NEVER TELLS HER HE LOVES HER!  This bothered me so much the first time I read Twilight that I kept having to re-read the meadow scene.  Why can't he say the words?!!  Is it because he's a teenage boy?  Albeit, he's lived longer than I have, but vampires don't change, right?
