Llama Destroys the World

Llama Destroys the World

Dat! Dat is my new favorite picture book! And llama.

Because I am a bookworm of Science, I might venture to say that 9 out of 10 readers may be pre-destined to love this book. Why?

Because it’s about a charismatic llama. Who says a lot with a little. In fact, llama has mostly one word (Dat!), but he uses it very effectively, even as he is figuring out how NOT to let the world be sucked into a black hole. Even as he decides nothing can be done so he may as well make (and eat) a sammich. A bologna and cheese and cheese and cheese sandwich, to be exact.

Let me give you the best summary for a book ever:

Llama has everything he needs for a great week:

CAKE

(of the most delicious variety!)

PANTS

(made for dancing)

A GIANT RIP IN HIS PANTS

(Too. Much. Cake.)

A BLACK HOLE

(Wait….WHAT?!)

THE END OF THE WORLD

(That wasn’t supposed to happen!)

No matter what…

Llama is going to make the best of it!

This summary makes you want to read this book, right? It also makes me think that maybe along with our First Pages series, I may need to do a book summary series. It would be great for us unpublished writers trying to figure out the querying-agents-world.

Llama Destroys the World lives up to the hype that its bright and enticing cover alludes to. It delivers the quirkiness, the fun, and the endearment that all of the best picture book characters do. And we had many a giggle and chortle over llama and his antics and love for sweets.

Jonathan Stutzman (writer) and Heather Fox (illustrator) are a husband and wife duo who have created pure gold out of their llama story. It’s my new favorite picture book and it’s likely to stay in that spot for some time.
