The Beary Best Bear Picture Books

The Beary Best Bear Picture Books

It’s BEAR DAY! Okay, not officially, but I’m calling today Bear Day in the Bookworm house.

Why?

Because today is my sister-in-law’s birthday and she LOVES bears. Coincidentally earlier this week, my nephew (her son) just happened to send me the cute bookbear that you see in the photos above. He made it using his 3D printer and I absolutely LOVE it!

In honor of my SIL, I decided to gather up some of our all-time favorite picture books that feature bears.

The Bear and the Piano by David Litchfield is ultimately a story about finding yourself and also finding your way back home. A bear cub finds a strange thing in the woods and he comes back every day until he has mastered the ‘strange thing’. He is discovered by a girl and her dad, who take him back to the city. My favorite part about this picture book is the textures and colors that Litchfield weaves throughout the story.

The sequel, The Bear, the Piano, the Dog, and the Fiddle, was released last year to much critical acclaim too.

Hibernate with Me by Benjamin Scheuer and Illustrated by Jemima Williams is a going-to-bed type of picture book that’s reassuring in its lullaby-like tale as one tries to get their own little ones to hibernate for the night. Its soothing rhythms and beautiful pictures can help calm anxieties that may crop up right before bedtime. Full review here.

The Bear Who Wasn’t There by LeUyen Pham is a picture book that definitely turns the tale on its head (pun, unintended, but oh so fitting.) It’s an interactive, laugh out loud read-aloud that your kids will love. Full review here.

And finally, I Love You Already! by Jory John and Benji Davies will always have a special place in my heart because it was the very first book that I reviewed on the blog. It’s a silly but not-so-silly story about two unlikely friends. It’s fitting to include here because just as my sister-in-law grew up as a BEAR fan, I was always a DUCK fan growing up. Though I suspect we are BOTH homebodies like bear, as bookworms tend to be. Full review here.

Please note that though Mother Bruce isn’t pictured, it is also a well loved book and series in our house. We just don’t own a copy but have read it many times at the library.

How are you celebrating non-official BEAR day? Getting ready for pi/pie day tomorrow?

A big happy birthday to my sister-in-law, K. xo
