Doctors' Day 2020

Doctors' Day 2020

Animal Crossing. It’s how my three are getting through quarantine.

I’m not quarantined. But I’m getting through this stressful time only because of my three. They make me laugh and smile.

They even are forgiving when I do things like when I had a meltdown yell fest at my poor unsuspecting trio a few nights ago. I’m only human.

And while my girls are sick of hearing about Coronavirus, I want to be honest with them. Sometimes it’s not interpreted correctly. Like when I played that video of a NY doctor calmly explaining how he’s taking care of patients and taking care of himself and how to stay safe. Mini Me interpreted the beginning of the video completely differently. And I finally had to explain my own fears-that I’m most at risk and putting myself at risk.  And though my three are healthy, am I risking them getting anything other than the mild cold that some people are getting? I’m not sure. And it weighs heavily on me. There’s too much that we don’t know about this new virus.

If you know me at all, you know that I’m writing this for my blog. But I may or may not post it. Why? Because my parents will read it and worry even more. (Mom and Dad, I’m okay. I’m venting. I hear everything you say even though I don’t always do what you say.)

This Doctors’ Day, my heart is with my colleagues at the front lines. They are always on my mind right now, as I’m sure you can tell by my posts.

We’re just at the beginning of this marathon. And we need to support them by doing what we can—staying at home so the numbers are so crazy, making masks, drawing sidewalk art to greet our neighbors, waving at those neighbors from afar, not playing with our neighborhood friends.

The other people I’m thinking about? My little patients, especially those who are aspiring to be doctors. (P wants to be a pediatrician, H wants to be a cardiologist, and I’ve seen many teens who want to go into physical or speech therapy.) I’m hoping that they aren’t deterred by what’s going on in our world right now.

Happy Doctors’ Day. I’m proud to be one today, and I’m proud of my colleagues in the hospitals and ERs right now. We stand behind you.

Coronavirus in Kids

I know we are all anxious and there are a lot of questions about Coronavirus and COVID-19. There’s a LOT of information out there in the news, most of which doesn’t pertain to kids.

Here are some great resources:

HealthyChildren.org (through the AAP) has a great Coronavirus information page, including info about positive parenting, social distancing, and newborns.

CDC Info about caring for kids during the pandemic.
